Advent Calendar Mini-Skein Exchange
with Heddi Craft
Inspired by the many mini-skein advent calendars we've seen, Heddi Craft and Sara Jessen are hosting an Advent Calendar Mini-Skein Swap on the last Social Knit Night in November. We need at least eight people to participate to make this work so SIGN UP for this FREE event and follow the directions below to get ready.
All participants will bring 24 mini-skeins of fingering weight yarn (wrapped in tissue) to the exchange and we'll provide a container and dated stickers to put on them after the exchange. Each of us will go home with 24 little fiber gifts to open during advent. We'll also provide a list of patterns you can use with your mini-skeins!
Here's what to do:
1. Pick three or more wool or wool blend fingering weight yarns to use to make your mini-skeins. You should make no more than eight mini-skeins from any one yarn so that every skein in the exchange is unique to the recipient. It's fine to use leftovers from other projects or you can buy new skeins. Yarn fiber content should be mostly wool or superwash wool. Pick yarns you would like to receive. (Using leftovers? Here's how to tell if the yarn is fingering weight.)
2. Wind your yarn into 20 yard skeins. One easy way to do this is to pick a book or quilting ruler that is 12 inches tall. Wrap your yarn completely around the object 30 times (30 x 2 ft = 60 ft = 20 yards). Use one of the following tutorials to twist the yarn into a mini-skein: YouTube Tutorial or Photo Tutorial.
3. Wrap each mini-skein in tissue or wrapping paper. You may want to use a different color wrapping for each yarn you picked so you don't give anyone two of the same mini-skeins. Optional: if you'd like, add a small gift or treasure to the wrapped mini-skeins like a stitch marker or piece of candy (but please, no scented items).
After the exchange, we'll provide you with dated stickers so you can mark your mini-skeins from 1-24. Sign up today for this fun event!

This support group is just that, a way of supporting eachother along the way with lots of great tips and any help that is needed will be provided. If this is your first sweater please also enroll in the Swatching and Measurements workshop as well, as this support group will not cover swatching techniques. I want to focus this sweater support group on the CustomFit sweaters by Amy Herzog however any sweater of your choosing is acceptable.
