Are you an absolute beginner to knitting? Or did you learn to knit many years ago and need a refresher course? In this class, we'll learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off while making a simple mug rug to put under your favorite coffee cup. While we work, we'll learn the basics of reading a pattern and fixing simple mistakes. No previous experience necessary.

Materials needed:

  • Smooth, washable worsted weight yarn
  • Size US 7 knitting needles
  • Tapestry or darning needle
  • Small scissors
  • Row counter (optional)

Learn to Crochet: Coffee Cozy

Are you a beginner to crochet?  In this class, we'll learn to make a chain and work single crochet while making a cup cozy to put around your favorite coffee cup. While we work, we'll learn the basics of reading a pattern and inserting your hook in different loops can create different effects. No previous experience necessary. 

Materials needed: 

A copy of the Coffee Cozy Sweater Wrap pattern (free pattern from Ravelry)

Smooth, washable worsted weight yarn 

Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook

Tapestry or darning needle 

Small scissors 

Row counter (optional) 

3/4 to 1" button for each coffee cozy

Learn to Knit Lace

This class is for students who feel confident with making knit and purl stitches and want to learn how to apply simple increases and decreases to make lace patterns in their knitting. While making a simple patterned headband, we’ll learn how to do several types of decreases and learn how yarnovers make a lacy pattern in your work. We’ll also learn how to read simple charted lace directions.

Materials needed:

  • Smooth, worsted weight yarn
  • Size US 7 knitting needles
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Row Counter
  • Small Scissors

Lernen Shawl Lace Shawl KAL

Calendar Sep 20, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 5 weeks

In this five week lace shawl knit along (KAL), you'll learn everything you need to know to knit lace shawls! We'll learn a new skill each week starting with garter tabs and simple yarn overs and working up to nupps and beads by the last session. You will learn to read charts and fix common lace mistakes.

Heddi Craft Designs will be running a knit along online for this lovely lace shawl worked in fingering weight yarn and this class will give you the chance to learn each week's skills in person from the designer herself. By the end of the knit along, you will have all the skills you need to tackle any lace project with confidence! 

Materials needed:

  • 550 yds/503 m of fingering weight yarn, sample use Anzula Luxury Fibers Dreamy (114 g, 385 yds, 75% Superwash Merino, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk), 2 skeins, Kale
  • US size 5 [3.75 mm] 32" [80 cm] circular needles 
  • 40 Czech glass beads, Size 6/0 (approximately 3g total)
  • Stitch markers
  • Small crochet hook (approximately 1 mm) or beading tool for applying beads
  • Tapestry needle
  • Pattern will be provided in class.

Sara's Sweater Support Group

This support group is just that, a way of supporting eachother along the way with lots of great tips and any help that is needed will be provided. If this is your first sweater please also enroll in the Swatching and Measurements workshop as well, as this support group will not cover swatching techniques. I want to focus this sweater support group on the CustomFit sweaters by Amy Herzog however any sweater of your choosing is acceptable.

Sewing Workshop

Sewing Workshop is now a weekly drop in lab. You can enroll here and pay by credit card, or select "pay by check" and bring cash or check with you to class.

This is an open lab type class where you can bring projects for assistance. A serger, iron, cutting mat, rulers and other supplies will be available for your use. Sewing machines may be available to rent during class - contact the teacher at sara.homan@gmail.com prior to your first day of class.
