Fingerless Mitts

2 at a time is not just for socks! In this class we will make a pair of fingerless mitts using the magic loop technique. 

The firs class covers the cast on and cuff, second class covers thumb gusset and hand and the last class will cover the thumbs. 

 

Class will be taught using the Black Locust pattern available as a free download on ravelry.com or feel free to bring one of your choosing. 

 

Materials Needed:

Printed copy of pattern

1 skein sport weight yarn (think Malabrigo Arroyo)

US6 40" circular needle

Stitch markers

or pattern of your choice with appropriate yarn and needles

Five Essential Bind Offs for Knitting

Have you ever read the end of a pattern that says, “Bind off all sts,” and wished the author would tell you how to do it? Have you noticed that your bind off method seems too tight or too loose in certain situations? Wondering about casting off “in pattern”? In this class we’ll learn five different techniques for binding off stitches that can be used for almost all of your knitting needs.  This class has homework before the first class, see below!

Skills needed: Students should be comfortable with knitting and purling.

Materials needed:

Smooth, light colored worsted weight yarn

Size 7 or 8 knitting needles

Tapestry needle

Swatches from homework (see below)

Homework 

Make 4 swatches as follows:

Cast on 20 sts. Work in stockinette stitch for six rows (knit right side rows, purl wrong side rows). Transfer stitches to a spare needle or stitch holder, leaving a 30 inch long tail.

Make 1 swatch as follows:

Cast on 20 sts. Work in stockinette stitch for six rows. Work k1, p1 ribbing for two rows. Transfer stitches to a spare needle or stitch holder, leaving a 30 inch long tail.

Just Bead It

US8 24" circular needle

Kids Sewing Camp ages 7-10

Students will learn sewing by hand and with the machine, how to work with patterns, and sewing studio safety in a small group setting. (4:1) They will have the opportunity to choose fabric and patterns for their own project. Some of the projects offered are: pin cushion, sewing tote, drawstring or zipper bags, pajama pants, simple skirts and more.

All materials are included, though students may bring their own fabric and sewing kit if desired. Please send students with snack/lunch, sunscreen and a light sweater since we will take breaks outside.

Payment plan available: $50 deposit plus 3 payments of $61.66, paid every two weeks

Kids Sewing Camp ages 8-12

Knitting 101

Are you an absolute beginner to knitting? Or did you learn to knit many years ago and need a refresher course? In this class, we'll learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off while making a simple mug rug to put under your favorite coffee cup. While we work, we'll learn the basics of reading a pattern and fixing simple mistakes. No previous experience necessary.

Materials needed:

  • Smooth, washable worsted weight yarn
  • Size US 7 knitting needles
  • Tapestry or darning needle
  • Small scissors
  • Row counter (optional)

Learn to Knit Cables

Have you ever admired cable patterns but worried they were too difficult? In this class we will introduce how to make both twisting and traveling cables while making a small phone cozy/sunglass holder. When you are finished, you’ll be able to work basic cables from charts or written directions.

Students should be confident with casting on, knitting, and purling before taking this class.

Materials needed:

  • Smooth, light colored worsted weight yarn
  • Size US 7 knitting needles
  • Cable Needle, any type
  • Tapestry or darning needle
